Which Laptop would be best for me?

Hi All, i'm looking to buy a laptop for personal use, but i don't know too much about what features are best to have or what brand to buy so i was hoping someone could help point me in the right direction. I have been looking on the Harvey Norman and Smith websites but i can't pick which is the best deal. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, and i want to spend under $1000 Thanks! :)
