What is causing my tcc to disengage upon shifting into overdrive?

i have a 4l80e trans in my 93 gmc k2500. Intermitenly when the th trans goes to shift into OD instead of shifting it kicks out the tcc and does not shift into OD. If you stop and shut off the pickup and restart it it will either work properly or mess up again. Any ideas?
